Aluminium 6083 is a heat-treatable alloy that mainly consists of aluminum, along with magnesium (0.6–1.2%), silicon (0.7–1.3%), and trace amounts of iron, manganese, and chromium. This unique blend offers outstanding corrosion resistance, good weldability, and impressive mechanical strength. The mechanical properties include a tensile strength of about 260–310 MPa, yield strength of around 145–275 MPa, and elongation of 10–18%, depending on the temper. Its hardness falls between 70–115 HB. These features make Aluminium 6083 forgings perfect for structural and load-bearing applications where durability and resistance to environmental factors are vital.
Standards : ASTM B247, B247
Temper : H14

Yes, Aluminum 6083 can be forged into thin-walled custom shapes, but it requires precise control of temperature, pressure, and tooling due to its relatively high strength and tendency to harden.
Aluminum 6083 has excellent workability, making it ideal for forging. Its high formability allows for intricate shapes with minimal cracking, ensuring smooth, efficient forging processes for complex components.
Aluminum 6083 is not ideal for high-temperature forging applications. It has lower strength at elevated temperatures compared to other alloys like 7075, making it unsuitable for such conditions.
Aluminium 6083 forgings find extensive use in aerospace and automotive sectors for structural components, frames, and mechanical parts, thanks to their strength, machinability, and corrosion resistance. They are also utilized in marine and construction industries for hulls, bridges, and load-bearing structures that face tough conditions. Moreover, this alloy is ideal for heavy-duty machinery, industrial equipment, and transportation applications where high performance and longevity are crucial. Its excellent weldability and formability make Aluminium 6083 forgings adaptable and dependable across a wide range of industries.
